Do you want to volunteer as a family, but you can't seem to find organizations that will accept you and your kids? Neither could I.

The Volunteer Family is prepared to encourage and facilitate volunteering with parents while simultaneously assisting local agencies plan and prepare for family volunteers. We aim to strengthen familial bonds while helping local agencies achieve their goal of serving our community's most pressing needs.

After I had my first child, I became acutely aware of the importance of family and community and how the two are interrelated. Every parent wants to raise a happy, healthy child, but as we are well aware, the communities our children live in play a vital role in shaping their thoughts, values and experiences. Unfortunately, when we have a family to look after, we often put community service on the back burner.

I realized that if could find a way to spend more time with my children and volunteer at the same time, I could teach them to care for others while we contributed to an important cause together. After months of research, I discovered that there are opportunities for family volunteering, but finding them was a difficult and time-consuming task. Thus, I started The Volunteer Family. We connect people like you with volunteer organizations who are willing to accept family volunteers.

The Volunteer Family makes volunteering together easy. We are continuously adding to our list of organizations willing to accept you and other members of your family. We define family very loosely - it is any group of two or more people, such as parents, children, siblings, foster parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends. The Volunteer Family can either match you and your "family" up with one of our preexisting opportunities, or depending on your situation and interests, work with you to create an individually tailored volunteer experience.
