Youth In Philanthropy
Youth Action Council

One of our Youth in Philanthropy programs, the Youth Action Council (YAC), began in September 2007. The Youth Action Council will bring together a diverse group of youth from several towns in the MetroWest area. YAC will train youth on nonprofit organizations, the needs in the community, and how to effectively distribute $10,000 in grant funds to local nonprofits.

We are currently accepting applications for youth interested in joining this exciting new program in the Fall of 2008! To apply, download an application.

As the region’s community foundation, Crossroads is interested in promoting and supporting local philanthropy in a variety of ways. Our most innovative effort to date is the Youth In Philanthropy (YIP) program.

Crossroads partners with local schools and community groups to train and convene youth grantmaking committees who advise all of our grantmaking to youth and children’s organizations.
Youth In Philanthropy
The Power of the Program
  • Crossroads’ grantmaking to children’s organizations is strengthened with the youth perspective
  • The next generation of philanthropists is empowered with invaluable skills and knowledge
  • Youth participants mature as leaders and develop a deep understanding of philanthropy, grantmaking, and community needs

How Does it Work?
Crossroads Community Foundation partners with a school or community group which designates a site coordinator to assist the program. Our staff provides training for the students, and we coordinate the grantmaking process so that students review well organized proposals. The students are then empowered with the grantmaking decisions under the oversight of Crossroads’ Distribution Committee and Board of Trustees.
